Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Temple took the subway to play Kansas. An early run and an unrelenting second half carried it the rest of the way. Will Cummings had 19 points and the Owls rolled to a 77-52 upset of No. 10 Kansas on Monday night, shooting better than 58 percent from the field for its first win over the Jayhawks in exactly 19 years. The game was never close, with Cummings sparking a 12-2 run at the start and the Owls (8-4) pulling away to lead by as many as 30 down the stretch. I thought we did as good a job we couldve done on the defensive end, Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said. It was our night. The Owls beat No. 1 Kansas 74-66 in overtime on Dec. 22, 1995, during what was the inaugural Jimmy V Classic in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Jayhawks shot only 32 percent from the field. Temple arrived to the Wells Fargo Center via the Broad Street Line, riding the underground train six miles from its North Philadelphia campus to the South Philadelphia sports complex. Cummings led the Owls with 11 points in the first half, including a 3-pointer to cap the six-minute run at the beginning of the game. The Owls led by 14 three times in the half, the last on Quenton DeCoseys free throws in the final two minutes. Kansas pulled within 35-25 at the break but got only as close as six early in the second half. Temple countered with an 11-2 run and kept its foot on the gas, taking a 20-point lead on Jesse Morgans 3-pointer from the left corner with 9 1/2 minutes remaining.
